Most travellers to Barcelona arrive at the El Prat airport. Inside the terminal building of Barcelona airport you can find all kind of tourist services like trains, busses, taxis or car hire. Barcelona car hire is not strictly necessary if you do not plan to leave the cityu to visit the nearby Costa Brava or other areas of Catalunya.

Finding your way around Barcelona is not difficult, but we must keep in mind some reference points. The center of the city is marked by the Plaça de Catalunya, below which lies the old town and most museums and other historical sights of the city.

The famous Rambla meanders from the Plaça de Catalunya to the Columbus statue, near the port. To the east of the Rambla we find the beautiful and romantic Barri Gotic, to the west we find the Barri del Raval. From the Columbus statue to the east, Pg Marítim through the Moll de la Fusta and Port Vell, the picturesque area of Barceloneta leads to the Port Olimpic. To the west, the Parallel leads to the Plaza d’Espanya y Montjuïc, one of the mountains of Barcelona.

The other mountain, Tibidabo, marks the northern boundary of the city. The also popular Diagonal is another important point of reference since it crosses the city diagonally.

Between the Plaza de Catalunya and the Diagonal, we find L’Eixample, emerged from the famous Pla Cerdà and whose goal was to unite the city center with the surrounding villages, which today are part of Barcelona. These, as Gràcia, Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, etc. have managed to maintain their own historical and cultural identity. The main artery of L’Eixample is the Passeig de Gracia where the famous Pedrera by Gaudí can be found.
